Wood Buffalo RCMP seek public assistance to locate missing adult female – located deceased – Update 3

On March 20, 2021, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of found human remains in a wooded area in the Thickwood area of Fort McMurray. The remains have been identified; however, the cause of death has yet to be determined.

Ellie Herman, a 35-year-old female, was reported missing to police by family on Oct. 17, 2019, in Fort McMurray. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Ellie during this difficult time. Ellie's missing person signs can now be removed, including from local billboard's, businesses and social media sites.

RCMP Major Crime Unit's investigation is ongoing. This area will remain closed to the public until further notice as police are still searching the area. The circumstances surrounding Ellie's death are still being investigated. Police are asking anyone who may have any information to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040.

Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate found remains - Update

On March 20, 2021, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of found human remains in a wooded area in the Thickwood area of Fort McMurray, Alta. An autopsy was held on March 24, 2021, at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the cause of death has not been determined at this time.

RCMP Major Crime Unit's investigation is ongoing. This area will remain closed to the public until further notice as police are still searching the area. The circumstances surrounding this death are still being investigated. Police are asking anyone who may have any information to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040.

Wood Buffalo RCMP will be in contact with the family, and an update will be provided when possible.
