Two people face multiple charges related to arson and assault

Two people are facing multiple charges following response by Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP to a report of a residential fire received on Friday evening, April 2, at approximately 8:10 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, police officers located the home owner who had injuries from an apparent assault. He was immediately transported to hospital for treatment and has since been released. Happy Valley-Goose Bay Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames. Fire investigators also attended.

As a result of the ongoing investigation into the matter, Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Labrador General Investigation Section, arrested two individuals. Both appeared in court on Saturday, remain in custody and are set to appear in court again tomorrow, April 7.

The first individual is charged with the following:

  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Arson with disregard for human life
  • Arson resulting in property damage
  • Failure to comply with a probation order
  • Failure to comply with a court-ordered condition

The second individual is charged with the following:

  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Failure to comply with a probation order

The matter remains under investigation.
