Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador

News release

A 22-year-old Makinsons man is without his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) after it was seized by Bay Roberts RCMP on January 16, 2021.

Shortly after midnight, officers observed an ATV operating on the Conception Bay Highway in Bay Roberts. As police were turning around to conduct a traffic stop, the ATV turned into the parking lot of the Bay Roberts mall and was located behind a dumpster on the back of the building. The driver, who was suspended from driving, was operating an ATV without insurance. He was ticketed for the infractions and the ATV was seized and impounded.

All-terrain vehicles are not designed for use on asphalt and operation on maintained roadways contravenes the Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicles Act. RCMP NL continues its efforts to educate the public and enforce the laws pertaining to off-road vehicle use. Seventeen people died in incidents involving snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles in Newfoundland and Labrador last year.
