On Monday, February 8th, at approximately 6:20 am an RCMP Officer located a vehicle stuck in the ditch near North Tryon, PEI with hazard lights flashing. The officer checked to see if the occupants had safely departed and located an elderly male who had been stuck waiting for tow in the ditch for approximately 4 hours. Due to weather conditions the tow vehicles were unable to attend. The RCMP officer shovelled the driver out of the buried drivers side door as the passenger door was not working, and escorted the man back to his residence where he was left in the care of his family.

The conditions were not safe for non-essential/emergency travel and the results of this event could have been tragic. The Prince District RCMP are reminding public that non-essential traveling in these conditions is not recommended and many normal vehicle services are not available in these extreme conditions. The RCMP recommend the public stay home and safe until the road and weather conditions improve. The RCMP wish to remind citizens to prepare for the weather and ensure you have proper safety equipment when traveling in poor conditions including, working cell phone, shovel, and appropriate clothing for the elements.
