Nain RCMP arrests man on snowmobile for impaired driving

Twenty-five-year-old Julius Merkuratsuk was arrested on February 8, 2021, for impaired driving on a snowmobile.

Just before noon, Nain RCMP was on patrol in the community and observed a snowmobile operating on a roadway. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver, Julius Merkuratsuk, was suspected to be impaired by alcohol. He failed a roadside breath test, was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were nearly three times the legal limit.

Merkuratsuk, who is currently before the court for charges of impaired driving, is charged with additional charges of impaired driving from this incident.

He was released from custody on conditions, his licence was suspended and he is set to attend court on April 6, 2021, to answer to all outstanding charges of impaired driving.
