News release

Halifax District RCMP has charged a 26-year-old man from Lawrencetown with attempted murder and other offences following a road rage incident in Lawrencetown.

On February 24 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Halifax District RCMP responded to a report of a man being struck by a vehicle in a parking lot off of Lawrencetown Rd.

Police determined that the incident began on Ross Rd. when the victim was driving southbound and noticed a red vehicle behind him. The victim turned left on Lawrencetown Rd. and the red vehicle tried to get in front of the victim.

The red vehicle drove in the oncoming lane beside the victim, made a threatening gesture and proceeded to drive behind the victim. The victim pulled into a parking lot and the red vehicle followed. When the victim got out of his vehicle to speak to the other driver, the driver turned around and drove straight towards him. The victim tried to move out of the way but was struck by the side of the vehicle. The driver then drove away. The victim, a 49-year-old man from Lawrencetown, suffered non life-threatening injuries.

A short time later, police arrested John Alexander Garnier without incident. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on March 30 at 9:30 a.m. to face the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Assault with Weapon
  • Uttering Threats
