Deer Lake RCMP responds to two-vehicle collision on TCH, one driver arrested for impaired driving

The driver of this vehicle was arrested for impaired driving on the TCH February 5, 2021

A 72-year-old Deer Lake man was arrested for impaired drving on February 5, 2021, following an investigation into a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) near Deer Lake.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Deer Lake RCMP received the report of the collision. One vehicle departed the scene heading in the wrong direction after it collided with another vehicle on the TCH. The driver was suspected to be impaired. Officers immediately responded and located the described vehicle, which was facing west, stuck on the eastbound shoulder. A traffic stop was conducted and the man showed signs of alcohol impairment. Officers observed open alcohol in the vehicle. The man failed a roadside breath test, was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the detachment where he provided breath samples that were nearly twice the legal limit.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to attend court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired driving. In addition to being issued a driving suspension and having his vehicle seized and impounded, he also received a ticket for operating an unregistered vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
