Bay Roberts RCMP conducts traffic checkpoints over the weekend, various violations found

Bay Roberts RCMP conducted a number of checkpoints this weekend and found a number of violations under the Highway Traffic Act and a violation under the Criminal Code.

One driver was driving with a suspended driver's licence and owed approximately $28,000 in fines. Police suspected alcohol use and administered a roadside breath test on the driver. The man provided a breath sample that was above the provincial limit. He was issued a further driving suspension and was ordered to attend court to address his outstanding traffic fines. The vehicle was seized and impounded for 30 days. A passenger in the same vehicle was in breach of his court ordered curfew. He was arrested, charged with breaching a court order and was held for a court appearance. Two other drivers were operating with expired driver's licences and one driver was operating without valid registration.
