Selkirk RCMP investigating Arson

On August 3, 2020 at 12:14 am, Selkirk RCMP responded to a house fire in Brokenhead Ojibway First Nation, Manitoba.

When officers arrived, the house was still standing and smoke was seen coming from the windows. The 52-year-old male homeowner had escaped without injury.

The initial investigation determined that the fire had been deliberately set. The fire was later extinguished but caused an extensive amount of damage to the interior of the building.

Stevie Fontaine, 25, of Brokenhead Ojibway First Nation, was arrested on scene and has been charged with Arson - Disregard Human Life. Fontaine was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Winnipeg on August 4, 2020.

Selkirk RCMP along with the Office of the Fire Commissioner continue to investigate.
