At approximately 11:30 a.m. yesterday, Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a 911 call regarding a male inside the Cookville Walmart in possession of weapons, including a gun.

Multiple police officers attended and took an 18 year-old male into custody inside the store. The male was searched and police located two replica handguns and two knives, which were seized.

"What's troubling about incidents like this is that replica guns look very realistic and our officers are required to make decisions when responding in fractions of a second," says Sgt. Mark MacPherson, Lunenburg District RCMP. "Thankfully we were able to arrest the individual without incident, however we want to remind citizens about the dangers associated with replica hand guns. In instances like this, we have to treat them as real weapons."

The 18 year-old from Brier Island Nova Scotia has been released from police custody and will appear in Bridgewater Provincial Court on May 3, 2017 to face a charge of Possessing a Weapon Dangerous to the Public.
