Halifax District RCMP reminds motorists to lock up their vehicles

March 13, 2017
Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia

News release

Since October 1, the Cole Harbour RCMP has responded to 62 complaints of entry into unlocked vehicles, with majority of these complaints being reported in the Forest Hills area. Many have taken place during day light hours and have resulted in the theft of money, personal identification and other valuables. No arrests have been made.

"Removing valuables from your vehicle is an easy way to make your vehicle less attractive to thieves," says Cpl. Dal Hutchinson, Halifax District RCMP. "Day or night, locking your car is just as important."

The public is asked to immediately report any suspicious activity or motor vehicle theft to police. This information enables police to increase their presence in impacted areas.

Anyone with information about these incidents, and who is responsible, is asked to call Halifax District RCMP at 902-490-5020 or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. The public can also get in touch with Crime Stoppers by texting TIP202 and a message to CRIMES (274637) or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca.
