Message from Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

Colleagues

I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone in the public safety portfolio, for your ongoing work under exceptional and challenging circumstances.

I know that the last few weeks have been tumultuous and difficult. But day after day, I see you rising to the many challenges posed by a global emergency. You help to keep our communities safe, and Canadians informed as the situation evolves. You help to protect our borders and correctional institutions. You ensure the continuity of many programs and services that Canadians rely on every day. And you provide expert policy advice that fuels the key decisions we make as a Government. And some of you face great risks in so doing – we are all indebted to the border, police and other officers on the frontlines of this battle.

I also want to thank you for taking such care in heeding the advice of our top public health officials. I know this situation poses unique and trying circumstances for many of you, some of whom have been working around the clock as events unfold. But by staying home when you can, staying informed, and keeping yourselves well, you are also helping to keep Canadians safe. In your own way, I hope you can find the time to focus on your health and wellness – whether that's getting out for some fresh air, staying in touch with your families and loved ones, or keeping a schedule to avoid burnout. I know that your senior managers have been providing regular information on this front. I encourage you to follow the advice of your respective organizations, and to learn about the many services you can turn to if you need help.

I will do my best to keep you informed as well, as we adapt together in real-time. And as we do, please know that I am deeply proud of your work. Thank you, and be well.

Bill Blair
Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness
